In a landmark effort to revolutionize livestock farming in Nigeria, the Goat and Sheep Utilization Farmers Association of Nigeria (GASUFAN), in partnership with Ibadan Digital Academy (IDA), hosted a one-day seminar titled “Modern Approaches to Livestock Farming for Wealth Creation.” The event took place at the IDA Innovation Hub, Iyaganku GRA, Ibadan, drawing a diverse audience of farmers, veterinarians, digital experts, and agribusiness stakeholders.
The seminar spotlighted the transformative potential of modern livestock practices in creating wealth, particularly in the goat and sheep sub-sector. The program was opened by GASUFAN President, Prince Adewale Adedeji, who emphasized the urgency for Nigerian farmers to transition from traditional practices to innovative, tech-driven systems. He noted that the seminar aimed to bridge this gap by equipping participants with tools and strategies to thrive in a changing agricultural landscape.
A major highlight of the event was the keynote lecture by Dr. Adedayo Sosina, Lead Strategist at Agrikonsult & Farm Solutions Ltd, titled “Become a Millionaire through Sheep and Goat Production in Nigeria.” Dr. Sosina outlined practical steps for building profitable livestock businesses through scientific breeding, proper nutrition, robust health management, and market integration. “Anyone who commits to it can become a millionaire,” he declared, igniting enthusiasm among attendees.
In a compelling digital security session, Mrs. Joke Oni, representing Dr. John Effong, delivered a presentation on “Cybersecurity Awareness for Farmers.” She emphasized the importance of safeguarding digital assets as farming becomes increasingly digitized. From two-factor authentication to detecting phishing scams, her presentation highlighted the relevance of cybersecurity in today’s agricultural operations.
The seminar also featured technical insights from Dr. Oladele-Bukola M.O. of IAR&T, Obafemi Awolowo University, who discussed veterinary health practices and disease prevention. IDA facilitators introduced participants to digital farm management tools, demonstrating how technology can enhance operational efficiency and profitability.
Discussions covered a wide range of topics including genetic improvement, smart feeding systems, branding, niche market strategies, and digital platforms for marketing and customer acquisition.
The event concluded on a high note, with participants leaving empowered and inspired. For many, it marked a turning point, showcasing that with the right knowledge and tools, livestock farming in Nigeria can move from subsistence to sustainable wealth creation.
