John Efiong, PhD, CEH

Dr. John Efiong is an emerging expert in Industrial Cybersecurity, with a background in process control, industrial automation and Computing. His PhD in Computer Science majors on Industrial Cybersecurity. He is a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and a budding Digital Forensics Investigator. As the Cybersecurity Research Team Lead at the WorldBank-Africa Center of Excellence, OAU ICT-driven Knowledge Park at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, he spearheads pivotal research aimed at enhancing cybersecurity architecture of Industrial Control Systems (ICSs) and other critical infrastructure across Africa.

He is a Research Fellow and Scholar of the Digital Science and Technology Network (DSTN), France and is recognized as a Young Researcher/Alumnus by the Heidelberg Laureate Foundation in Germany. His contributions to the field are further distinguished by his role as a Research Fellow and Mentor at the African Science Entrepreneurship (ASE), South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO).

Dr. Efiong is a Cybersecurity Mentor for the 3Million Technical Talents (3MTT) Project of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and as the Lead Cybersecurity Mentor/Facilitator at the Ibadan Digital Academy in Nigeria, he is actively involved in mentoring and facilitating cybersecurity in the country. Additionally, he serves as an African Educational Consultant for the Study-Abroad Research Institute (SARI) in Japan.

His expertise is a proper mix of industry and academics, as he is able to maintain a balance between theoretical principles and practice. He is also well-versed in artificial intelligence and data science, integrating these technologies to bolster cybersecurity measures.
