Here is something that surprises a lot of people entering the tech industry for the first time.
You can learn to write clean code. You can build a portfolio. You can pass technical assessments. And still find yourself struggling inside an actual development team — because nobody prepared you for how the work actually gets organised, communicated, and delivered.

Software development in professional environments runs on process. Sprints are planned, tasks are assigned, progress is tracked, and teams reflect at the end of each cycle to improve how they work together. When someone joins a team without understanding that structure, the gap shows quickly — and it has nothing to do with how technically capable they are.

This is the gap that Ibadan Digital Academy's Agile and Scrum programme is built to close. Here is what participants work through:

Agile principles and values — understanding the reasoning behind iterative development, not just memorising the terminology.

Scrum ceremonies — sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives — are practised as structured team disciplines, not abstract concepts.

QA methodologies and test case development — building systematic approaches to software quality that work within Agile delivery environments.

Test automation frameworks — practical training in Selenium, Appium, and Jest applied to real testing scenarios.

Distributed team collaboration tools — developing the coordination habits that modern remote and hybrid teams depend ony.

Career role clarity — understanding the specific contributions of QA engineers and Scrum Masters within development organisations, and the advancement pathways those roles offer.

By the end of the programme, participants do not just understand Agile — they can function within it. They bring process fluency, structured testing capability, and the team collaboration skills that development organisations in Nigeria and beyond are actively looking for.

If you are building toward a career in tech and want to be ready for the environment, not just the role, this is where that preparation begins.

Here is a scenario that plays out more often than most product teams would like to admit.

A team identifies a problem, gets excited about the possibilities, and begins building. Months pass. Features are added, refined, and debated. By the time the product is ready to show users, it is heavier, more complex, and more expensive than anyone planned — and the users it was built for respond with indifference, confusion, or a list of requests that were never part of the original vision.

The product did not fail because the idea was wrong. It failed because nobody defined what enough looked like before the building began.

That definition is what an MVP — a Minimum Viable Product — is designed to create. And it is one of the most important thinking disciplines in modern product development.

At Ibadan Digital Academy, our product development programme teaches participants to work through this process with structure and clarity. Here is what that looks like in practice:

Problem scoping — understanding the specific user need the product is being built to address, before any feature is proposed
Feature prioritisation — applying structured frameworks to separate what a product must do from what it could do later
MVP boundary definition — learning to make a principled case for what the first version includes and, equally importantly, what it does not
Low-fidelity wireframing and prototyping — representing the defined product scope in testable form without premature investment in execution
User testing and structured iteration — gathering real feedback early and using it to shape the next stage of development
Collaboration with development and design teams — understanding how product decisions translate into technical and design workstreams

Participants leave with applied frameworks, documented decision-making processes, and portfolio work that demonstrates product thinking — the combination that employers in product management, UX, and service design roles look for when evaluating candidates.

If you are building toward a career in any of these areas, this is the kind of structured foundation that makes the difference.

In our recent IDA CodeLab session at Oke Bola High School, Ibadan Digital Academy focused on helping students think like a computer — solving problems step by step and understanding why order matters.

Through guided activities, students practised breaking tasks into clear sequences and arranging instructions logically.

Key outcomes included the following:
✓ Clear understanding of sequential problem-solving
✓ Ability to organise instructions in the correct order
 ✓ Improved logical reasoning skills
✓ Increased confidence approaching structured challenges

By building these foundational thinking skills early, students begin to see digital systems as understandable and manageable.

Together, we can expand structured digital learning across more schools and strengthen future opportunities for young people.

Picture this: a team spends months building a digital product. The interface looks clean, the development is solid, and the launch goes ahead on schedule. Within weeks, the data tells a different story: users are dropping off, engagement is low, and no one can clearly explain why.

The answer, more often than not, is that the product was designed around what the team assumed users wanted — not what research confirmed they needed.
This is exactly the gap that Ibadan Digital Academy's UX and Product Design programme is built to close.

Here is what participants work through:
𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡—learning how to ask the right questions, gather meaningful data, and draw design decisions from real behavioural insight
𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 — building detailed user representations that keep design decisions grounded throughout the entire product process
𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 — translating user motivations, frustrations, and expectations into a framework that guides product thinking
𝐖𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 — practising design as an iterative, testable process rather than a one-time deliverable
𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 — hands-on work in Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch within collaborative workflows
𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬—understanding how to work effectively within cross-functional product environments

Participants leave not just with software skills but with portfolio work that documents their thinking process from first research question to validated prototype — the kind of evidence that employers in UX design, product management, and service design actively look for.

If you are working toward a career in any of these areas, this programme gives you the structured foundation to pursue it with credibility.

Beyond theory, the session emphasized real-world applications, reinforcing the importance of technological literacy in driving sustainable agricultural development.

The enthusiastic participation and insightful interactions with students further highlighted a growing demand for practical, tech-driven skills among young people preparing to lead the future of agriculture. At IDA, we remain committed to bridging the digital skills gap by empowering learners with relevant knowledge, confidence, and globally competitive competencies.

We are proud to be actively shaping the future of Agric-Tech. One training, one student, and one community at a time.

NYSC Accredits Ibadan Digital Academy as SAED Facilitator for ICT Skills Development

Ibadan Digital Academy (IDA) has been officially accredited by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as an Accredited Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Facilitator for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Oyo State.

The accreditation, granted under the NYSC SAED scheme, formally recognizes Ibadan Digital Academy’s capacity to deliver structured, practical, and industry-relevant digital skills training to youth corps members. This milestone positions IDA as a trusted partner in NYSC’s mandate to equip corps members with employable skills that promote self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and career sustainability beyond national service.

Speaking on the development, the Chief Executive Officer of Ibadan Digital Academy, Engr. Peter Ojo, described the accreditation as a strong validation of the Academy’s years of consistent investment in digital skills training, youth empowerment, and workforce development. Over time, IDA has built a reputation as a leading digital skills and career development institution, delivering hands-on training aligned with current industry demands.

As an accredited SAED facilitator, Ibadan Digital Academy will support youth corps members through ICT-focused training programmes covering key in-demand areas such as Cybersecurity, Data Analysis, Data Science, Software Development, UI/UX (Product Design), Digital Marketing, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, and other emerging digital technology skills. The training model emphasizes practical learning, real-world projects, and exposure to modern digital tools.

Beyond technical training, IDA is known for its holistic learner support approach. Participants benefit from mentorship, career guidance, access to internship placements, job opportunities, freelance engagements, and further learning pathways, ensuring that skills acquired translate into meaningful economic outcomes.

The NYSC SAED accreditation further complements Ibadan Digital Academy’s growing portfolio of national partnerships, including its ongoing collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) under the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) NEXTGEN Programme in partnership with Airtel, as well as its role as a training partner on the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) SUPA II Digital Skills Programme.

With this accreditation, Ibadan Digital Academy reaffirms its commitment to supporting national youth development objectives and empowering the next generation of Nigerian digital professionals.
IDA Takes Digital Literacy to Public Schools, Launches Coding Club at Oke Bola Comprehensive High School

In a decisive step toward bridging the digital divide and expanding access to technology education, Ibadan Digital Academy (IDA) today hosted selected students of Oke Bola Comprehensive High School on an assessment and familiarization visit as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and its broader mission to take digital technology skills to underserved communities.

As part of the launch, selected students of Oke Bola Comprehensive High School paid an assessment and familiarisation visit to IDA today. The visit provided students with early exposure to technology education, coding, and digital career pathways, while also serving as the foundation for the establishment of a Coding Club within the school, the first of its kind under this initiative.

During the interactive session, students engaged enthusiastically with discussions on technology education and coding fundamentals. Far from being passive participants, the learners demonstrated curiosity, confidence, and a strong desire to understand how technology works, and how they can be creators, not just consumers, in the digital economy.

Speaking on the initiative, IDA's Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Peter Ojo, reaffirmed IDA's belief that digital literacy is the great equaliser of our time, capable of breaking socio-economic and educational barriers. The session was designed to demystify technology careers and show students that opportunities in the digital economy are accessible, regardless of background, location, or starting point.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to inclusion,” Engr. Peter Ojo noted. “By bringing digital skills into public schools, we are ensuring that no one is left behind as the world becomes increasingly technology-driven.”

Engr. Peter Ojo also confirmed plans to expand the Coding Club model to other public schools in the near future, scaling its impact and nurturing a new generation of African problem-solvers, innovators, and technology leaders.

As the digital economy continues to reshape the future of work, initiatives like this underscore the importance of early exposure to STEM and digital skills, starting right from the classroom.
