Ibadan Digital Academy (IDA), an applied digital skills training and capacity development institute based in Ibadan, Oyo State, has secured formal approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to operate as a Skill Training Centre (STC) under Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework.
NBTE Grants Approval for Skill Training Centre Status
The approval follows a formal application submitted by the Academy and a comprehensive verification exercise conducted by the NBTE on August 16 and 17, 2026. The recognition positions IDA as an authorised provider of competency-based digital skills training aligned with national occupational standards under Nigeria’s TVET framework.
Approved Training Areas
The approval covers four occupational areas critical to Nigeria’s digital economy:
- Social Media Communications
- Creative Media (Digital Media Production)
- Computer Networking
- Web Application Development
Certification Framework Under the National Skills Qualifications Framework
Training delivery, assessment, and certification follow a structured pathway linking occupational training with formal competency assessment:
- Sectoral Awarding Body: The Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) (CPN) will assess trainees and recommend successful candidates for certification.
- Certificate Issuance: The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) will issue certificates based on CPN’s recommendations.
- National Framework: The arrangement operates within Nigeria’s National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF), with emphasis on demonstrated practical competence in each occupational area.
Training to Commence February 2027
Training under the newly approved Skill Training Centre arrangement is scheduled to commence in February 2027.
