At the just-concluded Knowledge Showcase Final Pitch at Ibadan Digital Academy, over 50 participants presented solutions built around real-world challenges, demonstrating the transition from learning to execution.

What stood out was not just participation, but the level of applied thinking. Fellows moved beyond concepts and delivered functional, problem-orientated products across different domains.

The top-performing projects were:
1st Position — DTFPrep, built by Adejumo Blessing Theophilus
2nd Position — Structura AI, built by Asike Chinwe Sandra
3rd Position — SmartCreditLite, built by Adekunle Olayinka Grace

Each project reflected clear problem definition, structured execution, and practical relevance.
The showcase reinforced a core principle: technical training only matters when it translates into the ability to build, test, and present solutions that work.

Every participant who submitted and pitched demonstrated the value of their work. The discipline of execution is what defines progress.

This week's sessions at Ibadan Digital Academy continued to deepen applied learning across programme tracks, with fellows working through foundational and analytical concepts under structured instructor guidance.\

In Cybersecurity, fellows engaged with computer networking principles in a session that extended beyond passive instruction into personal research and applied exploration. The session reinforced that networking fundamentals require deliberate, self-directed engagement alongside classroom delivery, and fellows were challenged to approach the material with that level of commitment.

In Data Science, fellows continued building statistical literacy with a session focused on statistics and probability. Building on the previous covering types of statistics, this session moved onto the conceptual and applied dimensions of how statistical reasoning underpins data interpretation, modelling decisions, and analytical conclusions.

Both sessions were delivered through live instruction with structured engagement from fellows across the cohort.

Our appreciation extends to 3MTT Nigeria, NITDA Nigeria, Airtel Foundation, and the leadership of Bosun Tijani for their continued role in strengthening Nigeria's digital capacity ecosystem.

Skills developed through execution.

A hiring panel at a mid-sized fintech company in Abuja shortlisted candidates for a Machine Learning role.

On paper, several candidates were strong. They had built models.

Completed courses. Listed relevant tools.

The interview question was simple:

“How would you handle model drift in a live system?”

Most responses focused on retraining. A few mentioned data pipelines. Only one candidate walked through a monitoring strategy, defined performance thresholds, described alerting mechanisms, and referenced version-controlled deployments with rollback capability.

That candidate was hired.

The distinction was not knowledge. It was operational awareness.

At Ibadan Digital Academy, AI career preparation is built around that distinction.

Fellows are trained to:

• Understand production realities through MLOps practices

• Design monitoring and retraining workflows for deployed models

• Apply responsible AI principles, including bias and explainability.

• Navigate roles across engineering, research, and product environments

The industry does not reward familiarity with tools.
It rewards the ability to manage systems responsibly.

The journey has officially begun for the girls participating in the National Girls in ICT—Innovate, Code, and Lead Nigeria programme.

In their very first session, these young girls were introduced to app development using MIT App Inventor—a beginner-friendly tool that empowers them to start building real applications from scratch.

They learned how to navigate the platform with confidence and explored the fundamentals of designing a user interface, including how to structure layouts, organise elements, and create apps that are not only functional but also easy to use.

For many of them, the session was their first hands-on experience with building digital products, and already, they are beginning to see that they can move from just using technology to actually creating it.

This is only the beginning, but the foundation has been set for innovation, creativity, and problem-solving.

A computer vision team at a retail analytics startup in Lagos trained a model to classify in-store customer behaviour. In controlled testing, the model performed exceptionally well. It recognised patterns, detected movement, and achieved over 90% accuracy in its validation set.

Two weeks after deployment, the reports stopped making sense.

The issue was not the model architecture. It was not the dataset size. It was the environment. Store cameras had inconsistent lighting. Some feeds were grainy. Others had shadows and obstructions. The model had been trained under ideal conditions and deployed in reality.
Accuracy dropped. Confidence scores became unreliable. Business decisions slowed.
The problem was not AI capability. It was the gap between development and deployment.
At Ibadan Digital Academy, Deep Learning training is structured around that exact gap.
Fellows are trained to:
• Build neural networks using TensorFlow and Keras with production considerations
• Work with CNNs and sequence models in contexts that reflect real-world data variability
 • Apply regularisation and tuning techniques that improve generalisation, not just training performance
 • Deploy, monitor, and iterate models in environments where conditions are not controlled
A model that performs in a notebook is a prototype. A model that performs in production is a system. We train for systems.

He had a written offer waiting on the other side of his AWS certification exam.

Not a verbal commitment. Not a maybe after a final interview. A written offer, contingent on the result of the exam he had been preparing for over six weeks.

That is the market Nigerian cloud professionals are walking into right now.

At Ibadan Digital Academy, cloud career preparation reflects the current hiring landscape, not where things stood three years ago.
✓ Cloud Engineer, Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer pathways
✓ AWS and Microsoft Azure certification tracks
✓ Portfolio projects demonstrating real deployment competence
✓ Cloud adoption context across Nigerian banking, telecoms, and enterprise

Certifications open the door. Portfolios prove you belong on the other side.

She had six days on the job when the infrastructure task landed in her queue.

She knew the architecture. She had studied the models. She understood how everything connected in theory. But she had never provisioned a virtual machine, configured a storage bucket, or set up a VPC from scratch in a live environment.

Thursday came. The environment was not ready.

At Ibadan Digital Academy, that gap is closed before training ends.

Cloud Computing fellows move from concepts to hands-on provisioning within the same week.
✓ Virtual machines and compute instances on AWS and Azure
✓ Storage services and access permission management
✓ Application deployment via CLI and cloud-native tools
✓ Resource monitoring and cost management

Cloud competence is measured by what you can deploy, not what you can describe.

Ibadan Digital Academy wishes you a productive April.

May this new month bring steady progress, new learning opportunities, and meaningful growth in your digital journey.

Here’s to building, learning, and improving every day.
Happy New Month!
The company ran a promotional campaign on a Monday. By Wednesday, the servers were down.

Traffic had doubled. Nobody had planned for it. The entire product had been built on local servers, and when the load hit, there was nothing to absorb it. Eleven hours of downtime. Hundreds of support tickets. Enterprise clients asking questions that did not have clean answers.

The worst part was that it was entirely preventable. Cloud infrastructure, properly architected from the start, would have handled that traffic without disruption. But the decision had never been made, because nobody on the team understood what they were not building.

At Ibadan Digital Academy, Cloud Computing training teaches fellows to think about scale before it becomes an emergency.
✓ IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS service models
✓ AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud core services
✓ Cloud security and shared responsibility
✓ Cost optimisation and resource management

The infrastructure decisions made early determine what is possible when growth arrives.

From Programme to Infrastructure: The 3MTT Shift

The launch of the 3MTT Partner Network & Showcase signals a transition from fragmented initiatives to a coordinated, demand-driven digital talent system.

As noted by The Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, this marks the beginning of a new phase focused on scale and long-term impact.

A key takeaway is the critical role of Applied Learning Centres (ALCs) in delivering practical, job-ready skills at scale.

For Ibadan Digital Academy (IDA), this reinforces our focus on hands-on training and last-mile talent development in Oyo State and beyond.

This is a step toward building a structured national talent pipeline.

The fifth week of training at Ibadan Digital Academy focused on structured execution across three core tracks: Cybersecurity, UI/UX Design, and Data Analysis.

Sessions moved beyond instruction into applied configuration, design systems thinking, and data-driven analysis.

In Cybersecurity, fellows configured VLANs, structured broadcast domains, and implemented IP addressing schemes. Practical sessions extended into Linux fundamentals, including file permissions, privilege control, Bash scripting, and secure lab environments using Kali Linux and VPN-based access.

In UI/UX Design, fellows worked with Figma auto layout systems, applying responsive design principles and building component-driven interfaces. Sessions covered structured layouts, navigation systems, and prototype development with functional interactions.

In Data Analysis, fellows developed Excel dashboards using pivot tables and pivot charts, applied data validation techniques, and implemented Goal Seek and Solver for what-if analysis. Sessions also included dynamic filtering, conditional formatting, and structured performance tracking.

Each session was execution-focused. Fellows configured, designed, and analysed under instructor guidance.

Our appreciation extends to 3MTT Nigeria, NITDA Nigeria, Airtel Foundation, and the leadership of Bosun Tijani for their continued role in strengthening Nigeria’s digital capacity ecosystem.

The model looked great on paper. High accuracy. Clean results. The team was proud of it.

Six weeks after deployment, nothing had changed in the numbers that actually mattered.

The audit revealed the problem: the model had been trained on imbalanced data and evaluated using the wrong metric. It had passed every internal test. It had failed at the only test that counted.

At Ibadan Digital Academy, machine learning training goes well past building a model. Fellows learn to evaluate whether a model will actually work before it ever reaches production.
✓ Linear regression, decision trees, and random forests
✓ Cross-validation and evaluation metrics beyond accuracy
✓ Feature engineering and imbalance handling
✓ scikit-learn pipelines built for professional use

Building a model is the beginning. Building one that works is the skill.

He had done three Python courses. He felt ready.

Then the technical assessment arrived. A real dataset. Messy. Inconsistent. No instructions on where to begin. Just the file and a deadline.

Forty minutes in, he was still trying to clean the first column.

It is a story that plays out quietly across job applications every week. The tools are listed on the CV. The real-world experience is not there.

At Ibadan Digital Academy, Data Science training does not use clean, pre-formatted tutorial data.

From the first session, fellows are working with the kind of data that workplaces actually produce.
✓ Pandas for loading, cleaning, and transforming datasets
✓ NumPy for array operations and statistical computation
✓ Exploratory analysis to find patterns in unstructured data
✓ Reproducible, professional-grade Python code

Tutorial skills and workplace skills are different things. We build the second.

A security scan flagged a critical vulnerability. The report was filed. Two years passed. The server was never patched.

When a breach finally came, it did not come through a sophisticated zero-day exploit. It came straight through the door that had been left open in writing.

This is not an unusual story. It is one of the most common patterns in how Nigerian organisations experience security incidents. The findings existed. The follow-through did not.

At Ibadan Digital Academy, fellows are trained to find vulnerabilities and document them in ways that organisations actually act on.
✓ Vulnerability scanning with professional tools
✓ SQL injection, XSS, and phishing attack vectors
✓ Penetration testing methodology
✓ Security reporting for both technical and management audiences

The weakest point in most systems is not the technology. It is the gap between findings and action.

A professional receives a security alert. The system has done its job. But the person reading the alert does not have enough foundational knowledge to know what it means, how serious it is, or what to do next. Three hours later, the damage had already been done.

The problem was not the technology. It was the gap in preparation.

At Ibadan Digital Academy, we close that gap. Cybersecurity training here starts with the infrastructure layer that every attack and every defence depends on.

✓ IP addressing and subnetting
✓ Network topology and the OSI model
✓ Routing protocols and switch configuration
✓ Cisco Packet Tracer hands-on simulation

This is where the foundation is built.

#IbadanDigitalAcademy #Cybersecurity #DigitalSkills #NigeriaTech #NextGenProgramme +4 A professional receives a security alert.

The third week of training at Ibadan Digital Academy moved deeper into applied learning. Here is what fellows worked on across four tracks:

✓ Cybersecurity — networking protocols, IP addressing, and live Cisco Packet Tracer simulation

✓ UI/UX Design — Boolean operations in Figma, layout grids, and interactive prototyping

✓ Data Analysis — Excel data validation, descriptive statistics, Goal Seek, and Solver

✓ Software Development — CSS measurements, display properties, and positioning systems

Fellows did not only observe. They built, configured, tested, and refined under instructor guidance.

We recognise the ongoing support of 3MTT Nigeria, NITDA Nigeria, the Airtel Foundation, and @bosuntijani in advancing digital talent development across Nigeria.

The momentum continues.

Here is something a lot of aspiring designers discover too late.

They spend weeks learning Figma. They complete tutorials, follow along with walkthroughs, and feel confident by the time they finish. Then they sit down inside a real product team and realise that knowing the tool and knowing how professionals use the tool are two very different things.

The difference shows up in how files are structured for collaboration. In how design decisions get communicated to developers. In how feedback is applied, iterated, and documented. These are not small details. They are the habits that determine whether a designer can function inside a real product environment or whether they are still learning on the job.

At Ibadan Digital Academy, our Figma and Adobe XD training is built to close that gap:

Figma workflows — components, auto-layout, design systems, and collaborative file structures applied the way product teams actually work

Adobe XD prototyping — building interactive prototypes that communicate design decisions clearly and support effective developer handoff

Design documentation — organising and presenting work in ways that demonstrate professional thinking, not just visual output

Portfolio development — producing case studies that show employers how you approach design problems, not just what the final screen looks like

By the end of the training, participants have tangible portfolio work and the workflow discipline that distinguishes job-ready designers from those who are still finding their footing.

If you are serious about a career in UX or product design, the tools matter. But how you use them within a professional environment matters more.

A team works for months on a digital product. The design looks clean. The developers deliver on time. Everyone is confident going into launch. Then the users arrive and they are confused, disengaged, and largely uninterested.

The product did not fail because it was poorly built. It failed because the team never stopped to properly understand the people they were building for.

This is one of the most common and most avoidable failures in digital product development, and it is exactly what design thinking is structured to prevent.

At Ibadan Digital Academy, our Design Thinking programme teaches participants to work through four professional phases:

Empathize — understanding the real user through structured research, observation, and behavioural analysis before a single design decision is made

Ideate — generating and evaluating potential solutions through structured frameworks that keep the focus on user need, not team preference

Prototype — building low-fidelity, testable representations in Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch the way product teams actually use them within collaborative workflows

Test — gathering structured feedback from real users and using it to refine rather than defend the original idea

Participants do not just develop tool fluency. They develop a documented thinking methodology, the kind that employers in UX design, product management, and service design evaluate when deciding whether a candidate is truly ready.

If you are working toward any of those roles, design thinking is not optional knowledge. It is a foundational competence.

Here is something that surprises a lot of people entering the tech industry for the first time.
You can learn to write clean code. You can build a portfolio. You can pass technical assessments. And still find yourself struggling inside an actual development team — because nobody prepared you for how the work actually gets organised, communicated, and delivered.

Software development in professional environments runs on process. Sprints are planned, tasks are assigned, progress is tracked, and teams reflect at the end of each cycle to improve how they work together. When someone joins a team without understanding that structure, the gap shows quickly — and it has nothing to do with how technically capable they are.

This is the gap that Ibadan Digital Academy's Agile and Scrum programme is built to close. Here is what participants work through:

Agile principles and values — understanding the reasoning behind iterative development, not just memorising the terminology.

Scrum ceremonies — sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives — are practised as structured team disciplines, not abstract concepts.

QA methodologies and test case development — building systematic approaches to software quality that work within Agile delivery environments.

Test automation frameworks — practical training in Selenium, Appium, and Jest applied to real testing scenarios.

Distributed team collaboration tools — developing the coordination habits that modern remote and hybrid teams depend ony.

Career role clarity — understanding the specific contributions of QA engineers and Scrum Masters within development organisations, and the advancement pathways those roles offer.

By the end of the programme, participants do not just understand Agile — they can function within it. They bring process fluency, structured testing capability, and the team collaboration skills that development organisations in Nigeria and beyond are actively looking for.

If you are building toward a career in tech and want to be ready for the environment, not just the role, this is where that preparation begins.

Here is a scenario that plays out more often than most product teams would like to admit.

A team identifies a problem, gets excited about the possibilities, and begins building. Months pass. Features are added, refined, and debated. By the time the product is ready to show users, it is heavier, more complex, and more expensive than anyone planned — and the users it was built for respond with indifference, confusion, or a list of requests that were never part of the original vision.

The product did not fail because the idea was wrong. It failed because nobody defined what enough looked like before the building began.

That definition is what an MVP — a Minimum Viable Product — is designed to create. And it is one of the most important thinking disciplines in modern product development.

At Ibadan Digital Academy, our product development programme teaches participants to work through this process with structure and clarity. Here is what that looks like in practice:

Problem scoping — understanding the specific user need the product is being built to address, before any feature is proposed
Feature prioritisation — applying structured frameworks to separate what a product must do from what it could do later
MVP boundary definition — learning to make a principled case for what the first version includes and, equally importantly, what it does not
Low-fidelity wireframing and prototyping — representing the defined product scope in testable form without premature investment in execution
User testing and structured iteration — gathering real feedback early and using it to shape the next stage of development
Collaboration with development and design teams — understanding how product decisions translate into technical and design workstreams

Participants leave with applied frameworks, documented decision-making processes, and portfolio work that demonstrates product thinking — the combination that employers in product management, UX, and service design roles look for when evaluating candidates.

If you are building toward a career in any of these areas, this is the kind of structured foundation that makes the difference.

Picture this: a team spends months building a digital product. The interface looks clean, the development is solid, and the launch goes ahead on schedule. Within weeks, the data tells a different story: users are dropping off, engagement is low, and no one can clearly explain why.

The answer, more often than not, is that the product was designed around what the team assumed users wanted — not what research confirmed they needed.
This is exactly the gap that Ibadan Digital Academy's UX and Product Design programme is built to close.

Here is what participants work through:
𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡—learning how to ask the right questions, gather meaningful data, and draw design decisions from real behavioural insight
𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 — building detailed user representations that keep design decisions grounded throughout the entire product process
𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 — translating user motivations, frustrations, and expectations into a framework that guides product thinking
𝐖𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 — practising design as an iterative, testable process rather than a one-time deliverable
𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 — hands-on work in Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch within collaborative workflows
𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬—understanding how to work effectively within cross-functional product environments

Participants leave not just with software skills but with portfolio work that documents their thinking process from first research question to validated prototype — the kind of evidence that employers in UX design, product management, and service design actively look for.

If you are working toward a career in any of these areas, this programme gives you the structured foundation to pursue it with credibility.
